Points to remember when filing 2023 tax returns

The Internal Revenue Service offers a checklist to help taxpayers as they prepare to file their 2023 tax returns during tax season.

These six simple tips will help make tax preparation easier in 2024:

  1. Gather all necessary tax documentation to verify its accuracy and avoid losing a deduction or credit. Taxpayers must have all their important and necessary documents before preparing their return. This will help you file a complete and accurate tax return.

Before beginning, taxpayers must have:

  • Social Security numbers of all people listed on the tax return.
  • Bank account and routing numbers.
  • Various tax forms, such as W-2, 1099, 1098, and other income documents or digital asset transaction records
  • Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement.
  • Any letter from the IRS citing an amount received for a particular tax deduction or credit.

  • Goods created and sold on online platforms.
  • Investment income.
  • Part-time or seasonal work.
  • Self-employment or other business activities.
  • Services provided through mobile applications.
