How to prevent and report financial exploitation
Financial exploitation of older adults occurs when someone misuses or illegally uses an older adult's money, assets, or accounts without their consent. This can include crimes such as theft, fraud, unauthorized use of bank accounts or cards, manipulation to sign legal documents, or pressure to change wills and powers of attorney. Often, these abuses are committed by people the older adult trusts, such as family members, caregivers, or acquaintances.
