Extension of Initial Registration Period for New TPS

Extension of Initial Registration Period for New TPS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the initial registration periods from 180 days to 18 months for applicants who currently do not have TPS under tps designations for Venezuela, Syria and Burma. This 18-month extension is the same time period as the TPS designation itself, allowing an individual to apply as an initial applicant at any time during the 18-month designation periods for these three countries.

However, applicants should be aware that the ability to file a late initial TPS application may not be available during any possible subsequent extension of these designations, so individuals who wish for TPS should take steps to apply during this initial 18-month registration period to ensure that they do not miss the opportunity to obtain TPS.
