Temporary Disability benefits can partially replace your wages if you have to stop working due to a physical or mental health condition or other disability not related to your job, including pregnancy/childbirth or COVID-19

Most New Jersey employees qualify. To be eligible for help, you must: 

  • Have earned at least $12,000 total or $240 weekly for 20 total weeks of employment in the 18 months before your claim began;
  • Stop working due to illness/injury that is not caused by your job; Y
  • Under the care of a licensed medical provider.

It is your responsibility to ensure that all of this information, including part of the medical provider, is sent to the Division of Temporary Disability Insurance.

If you plan ahead, you can start the application up to 60 days in advance and save it as a draft. save it as a draft. Once you start your license, you must go back to your draft to certify and submit your application. If you apply after your license begins, you have 30 days from your first day of license to apply.

It can take two to six weeks to approve a claim and pay benefits, once we have a complete application.

Receive 85% of your average salary, up to $993 per week

Su medical provider certifies how long you need to recover from your medical condition, up to a maximum of 26 weeks. After you start receiving Temporary Disability benefits, we may require you to provide proof of your continuing disability in order to continue receiving benefits.
