Paid family and medical leave for NJ workers

Do you need to be away from work long-term due to pregnancy, childbirth, illness/injury, or to care for a loved one?

You may qualify for paid family leave and/or temporary disability benefits. Most NJ workers qualify for these benefits.

You You have the right to be paid: For all hours worked at a wage rate no less than the state minimum wage

Are you eligible to work overtime?
You must be paid 1.5 times your hourly wage rate for each hour worked over 40 hours per week.

Do you work on a publicly funded construction project, such as a school?
The contractor must pay you the established wage rate for public works

Are you an independent contractor?
You could be misclassified and denied the right to unemployment and disability benefits, family leave, minimum wage,

Paid sick leave is the law: You have the right to take care of yourself and your loved ones

Employers must provide 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a total of 40 hours per year.

It is illegal for employers to retaliate against you for using your paid time off.
