arrow Alert! - Trump extends immigration restrictions until the end of the year and expanded them to other work visas

President Donald Trump expanded his offensive against immigrants, extending and expanding the restrictions that will stop legal immigration to the United States until the end of the year.
 
The new order expands the measure and goes further by pausing new H-1B tech worker visas, H-2B temporary worker visas, certain work exchange and education visitor visas, and L executive transfer visas.

arrow DACA: Impact of the Supreme Court decision of Justice

On June 18, 2020, the Supreme Court blocked the government's attempt to rescind DACA and referred the case for further consideration. Consequently, the Court referred the cases to DHS to "consider the problem again."
 
Per the decision, USCIS must continue to process DACA applications (as outlined in the USCIS guidance established prior to the Supreme Court decision).

The 2020 Census is happening now. You can complete your questionnaire online, by phone, or by mail. Responding to the Census is quick and easy. Completing the 2020 Census questionnaire takes about 10 minutes, it is safe, secure, and confidential.
 
IACO has created a special edition of "The Immigrant's Guide" to highlight the importance of the census. This edition contains information on how to participate in the census and what benefits your participation brings to our communities.

arrow On July 15 the extension to Declare Taxes expires

The Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service are providing special relief to individuals and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The due date for tax returns was extended from April 15 to July 15, 2020. The IRS urges taxpayers who are owed a refund to file as soon as possible. For those who cannot file by the July 15, 2020 deadline, the IRS reminds individual taxpayers that everyone is eligible to request an extension to file their return.

The deadline to register to vote in the next election is 21 days before Election Day. (October 13, 2020
)

To register in New Jersey, you must be:

  • US Citizen
  • At least 17 years old, although you cannot vote until you have turned 18
  • A county resident for 30 days prior to the election.
  • A person who does not serve a sentence of incarceration as a result of a conviction for a crime indictable under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

This website is aimed at seniors of Hispanic origin, who have limitations with the English language and with new technologies.
