Be aware of fraud during the national coronavirus emergency.

Scammers may try to obtain your Medicare Number or personal information to steal your identity and commit Medicare fraud. Medicare fraud drives higher health care costs and taxes for everyone.

 HELP FIGHT MEDICARE FRAUD

Remember:

  • Medicare will never contact you to ask for your Medicare Number or other personal information unless you have given prior permission.
  • Medicare will never call you to sell you anything.
  • You can get calls from people who promise you things if you give them a Medicare number
  • Medicare will never visit you at home. Medicare cannot enroll you over the phone unless you have called first.

Things not to do:

  • Protect your Medicare card like a credit card
  • Do not offer your card or your Medicare number, or your card or your Social Security number, to anyone except your doctor or someone you know must have it.
  • Do not accept offers of money or free health care gifts.
  • Do not allow anyone except your doctor or other Medicare providers to review your medical records or recommend certain services.
  • Do not contact your doctor to request a service you do not need.
