Applicants Eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Can Now File Forms I-821 and I-765 Online

Beginning October 20, 2021, all applicants eligible to apply for TPS under one of the current designations can submit Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status online. The countries listed below are currently designated for TPS:

  • Burma (Myanmar)
  • El Salvador
  • Haiti
  • Honduras
  • Nepal
  • Nicaragua
  • Somalia
  • South Sudan
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Venezuela
  • Yemen

Initial TPS applicants and re-enrolling TPS recipients can apply for TPS online. Applicants can request an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) by filing a completed Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization completed along with their Form I-821, or they can submit their Form I-765 at a later date. However, filing both forms together could help applicants receive their EAD faster.

To submit Form I-821 online, TPS eligible applicants must visit our website myUSCIS to start or create a USCIS online account. This free online account offers a variety of tools, including the opportunity to communicate with us about your application through a secure email inbox.

Background
Previously, the option to file Form I-821 online was only available to initial TPS applicants filing from certain countries. Offering online filing for all eligible TPS applicants allows us to make the process of applying for immigration benefits more efficient, safe, and convenient for applicants.

Applicants who submit a paper Form I-821, or any other USCIS form, will still be able to create an account online to track the status of their form through the adjudication process, if they have not yet submitted their form. electronically (or online). Applicants filing in paper format can refer to the Account Access Notice we send them for details on how to integrate their cases to their USCIS online account.
