Verification of your identity for unemployment insurance

The New Jersey Department of Labor has partnered with ID.me to verify the identity of all workers applying for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. This mandatory step protects your identity and ensures your benefits are not subject to fraud. Before receiving benefits, you must complete identity verification through ID.me. ID.me.

How long does the identity verification process take?

The process can be completed in a few minutes using the email address associated with your unemployment claim, a computer or mobile phone, your Social Security number, and common verification documents.

After completing the verification, NJ Unemployment may take up to 5 business days to process it. If you do not receive a response after 5 business days, please contact your Reemployment Call Center.

Can I use a language other than English?

Yes. By clicking the link to verify your identity, you can select your preferred language. You can also complete the process via live video conference in your chosen language.

I'm having trouble creating an account. Who can help me?

If you are having problems, submit a help request. hereNJDOL staff cannot access your ID.me account or complete the process for you.

What happens after completing ID.me verification?

When you successfully complete the process, ID.me will send you an email confirming: "We have confirmed your identity!"

However, this email is not enough to begin the certification process. You must wait for a New Jersey unemployment confirmation email from ui-noreply@dol.nj.gov. This email will tell you how to begin the certification process and the steps to take to complete your application.
