How to receive your unemployment benefits by debit card
You can receive your benefits in two ways: through direct deposit or through a Money Network/My Banking Direct prepaid debit cardWhen submitting a new application, you choose your preferred method. If you do not select direct deposit, you will automatically receive a debit card.
Prepaid Debit Card
If you do not choose direct deposit, you will receive a debit card within 10 days of your application being reviewed. The card will arrive in a plain envelope, without any identifying marks, with a return address in Omaha, Nebraska. It is important to know that the card may arrive before your application is approved; funds will only be debited if your claim is accepted.
The card is valid for three years. You must keep it even if you return to work or your benefit year ends. If you reopen a claim or file a new one within four years, the payments will be deposited onto the same card.
If your card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you should contact My Banking Direct immediately at 888-292-0059You are entitled to one free replacement per calendar year; additional cards cost $10 each.
Switch to Direct Deposit
If you already have a debit card but would like to switch to direct deposit, you can update your preference online. The change won't take effect immediately. Changes are processed once a week, on Monday evenings, and take effect the following Tuesday. This means that any payments certified before the change is processed will be sent to the old method. Starting on the Tuesday the change is completed, all future payments will be deposited into your new payment method.
