Federal Court Upholds Family Reunification Parole

On January 24, 2026, the Federal District Court of Massachusetts issued a preliminary court order which suspends the termination of permits passwords and employment authorization granted under the Family Reunification Parole Processes (FRP) for people from Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and El Salvador.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had planned to revoke existing permits with the termination of the FRP program on January 14, 2026. However, that action had already been halted by a 14-day temporary injunction. With this new decision, the court extends the suspensionallowing the beneficiaries of the program maintain their parole status and work authorization while legal proceedings continue.

In its ruling, the court indicated that the termination of the parole by DHS could be considered arbitrary, based on unsubstantiated allegations about supposed deficiencies in the verification processes and possible cases of fraud among the current beneficiaries of the program.

The court order remains in effect for the time being and maintains existing protections for people who received parole under the Family Reunification program, while the case continues to be reviewed by the court.
