What is DACA?

What benefits does DACA offer?

When do I need to renew my DACA?

Due to current delays, many legal service providers recommend starting the renewal process approximately between 4 and 5 months before of the DACA expiration date.

What happens if I let my DACA expire?

If DACA expires, you may lose your employment authorization and the protections the program provides. Furthermore, a late renewal can increase the amount of time you remain without these benefits.

What happens to initial DACA applications?

USCIS accepts initial DACA applications, but cannot approve new applications due to court orders. Those who have never had DACA can apply, but their applications will be pending approval.

If you already have DACA, you can renew. USCIS is still processing renewals.

Am I at risk of deportation now?

With DACA in place, protections remain. However, DACA does not grant permanent immigration status nor does it eliminate the risk of contact with immigration authorities.

Recently, more DACA recipients have been affected by immigration actions. Cases of arrests and deportations of recipients have been documented.

In April 2026, the BIA ruled that having DACA does not automatically stop deportations. If a person faces deportation, the government must still follow the legal process to carry out the deportation.
