It is important for those who have recovered from a disability to understand the requirements and options, such as applying on an alternate base year.
Requirements for Benefits with an Alternate Base Year:

  1. Disability Recovery: You must have recovered from a disability covered by workers' compensation or the Temporary Disability program within the last two years.

2. Verification of Employment Status: You must have contacted your previous employer and confirmed that there is no job available.

3. Timely Application: You must file your application for benefits within four weeks of your recovery.

By following these criteria, applicants can access benefits after recovery and ensure they receive the necessary support.

If you already have enough wages from the regular base year to qualify for benefits, you do not need to apply using an alternate base year. In that case, use information from the regular base year to calculate your unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. Note that you cannot combine wages from the regular and alternate base years to calculate benefits, and wages used in a previous claim cannot be reused.

By meeting the criteria outlined above, those who have recently recovered from a disability can effectively apply for benefits and secure the necessary support.
